Mwalimu SACCO
Project Overview: Mwalimu National SACCO is the largest African SACCO, with a membership of teachers from all over Kenya. As part of a project team, I worked to automate their reporting using Tableau and build a robust data warehouse for real-time and actionable insights.
Project Goals
- Streamline data reporting processes by automating dashboards in Tableau.
- Design and implement a data warehouse to integrate data from multiple sources.
- Provide real-time access to historical and operational data for informed decision-making.
- Ensure scalability and efficient data refresh for Tableau dashboards.
Technologies Used
- SQL: Developed data source queries for extracting and cleaning data.
- Tableau: Created and published interactive dashboards and reports.
- ETL Tools: Designed ETL pipelines using SSIS and python for loading data into the data warehouse.
- Data Warehouse Design: Built a scalable architecture for storing and managing integrated data.
Achievements & Impact
The project significantly improved operational efficiency and enabled Mwalimu SACCO to achieve the following:
- Reduced manual effort in report generation by automating the process.
- Enabled departments to access role-specific dashboards, improving decision-making.
- Improved data accuracy and timeliness for real-time insights.
Challenges & Solutions
Key challenges included handling disparate data sources and ensuring real-time data updates. Solutions implemented included:
- Developed robust ETL pipelines to integrate data from multiple systems into a central repository.
- Automated refresh schedules in Tableau for up-to-date reporting.
- Implemented user-level security for controlled access to dashboards.
Project Results
The project empowered Mwalimu SACCO with advanced data capabilities, enabling them to make faster and more informed decisions. It reduced reporting time and provided valuable insights across all departments.
